Another Brilliant Artist -- Auction to Benefit CLIR
We're thrilled with the success of Lorraine Brevig's auction on behalf of our ongoing fundraiser for the CLIR Laboratory { http://www.catoctinlab.org ].

    Thank you Lorraine, you're amazing!

Our next volunteer is the most versatile artist I've ever seen. Award-winning painter, Lydia B is a brilliant draftsman. [ http://siardica.deviantart.com ] In portraiture, she is excellent at capturing a likeness. She has a lovely delicate touch in water color washes. As a naturalist, her plant and animal depictions are second to none. She can do breathtaking land or seascapes, or lovely little still lifes. She does digital art for fabric printing. She's a fine spontaneous cartoonist.

And oh yeah, she WILL DO FAN ART, if such is your pleasure. Any fandom, any style, any medium.

Here's a sample of her original work, a draft for an oil painting, entitled "Dressmaker". [Although a mere scan doesn't do justice to the intricate details of her work, which you must view in realtime to fully appreciate.]

Currently accepting bids from you! Commission an original work of art or FAN ART, all proceeds go to benefit the not for profit medical research laboratory CLIR.

Hey, Lydia B says "Finished in time for Christmas gift giving? No problem..."

Glittering Debut of the CLIR Snowball!
    The time has come!

We are beginning our Snowball to raise funds for the small nonprofit Catoctin Laboratory for Independent Research Inc. (http://www.catoctinlab.org) . This is a charity currently focusing on important but neglected medical research; donations will be used to purchase research equipment.

To start the ball rolling, Lorraine Brevig (http://www.lorrainebrevig.com/) has offered to paint a new work, fan art or original, that the winner of this auction chooses. We are not alone in our opinion that Lorraine is a brilliant artist (see below for an example from the illustrated novel Aerekel).

    Photobucket
(Note: This is only an example! The subject of the painting up for auction is your choice.)

** To bid, reply here. The winning bid must include a cash donation to CLIR, which can be made through Paypal (see CLIR's Donation page).

** The details of the painting are to be negotiated with Lorraine, including deadline for completion, subject matter, etc.

** Because this is a Snowball, we are hoping folks will offer other goods and services for auction in addition to cash donations. These might include fan art, fan fiction, original works, etc. You can add this type of donation to your cash bid to beat other, equal bids.

** If you just wish to donate to a really worthy cause, please do! Everything helps, no matter how small! Reposts of this announcement are greatly appreciated =)

    Fanfiction Fundraiser
    Hey, hi, hugs!

Would any friends out there in the misty creative ether be interested in participating in a charity fundraising event?

We have a brand new not-for-profit medical research laboratory, and we are trying to raise enough start-up money to begin buying equipment. For those of you who dont write grant applications, the reason we need a fundraiser is that almost all institutions and organizations that fund research require that the laboratory is already up and running.

We have IRS approval and documentation of 501c3 status, so all monetary contributions to the equipment fund are tax deductible. We have a new technology that was originally developed at the National Cancer Institute, who once funded the research and initiated the patent application, but now have dropped the project. The research is officially ours to pursue.

Thingummie Minor says she will set up a web page for the fundraiser. And Asymphototropic here volunteers to write fiction [any fandom, per donor request] to get things started.

So this is a tiny teaser, to see if anyone else is up for this. Art, fiction, vids, whatever. Anybody else interested?

    Cell Phone Scam
Hey, it's pretty dastardly when a major international corporation scams its own customers. But here's the gist of things.

    Come visit at Comic-con!
For anybody who will be at San Diego Comic-con or if you know anybody out west:

Please stop by and visit! I'll be promoting my reader-illustrated serial novel Aerekel from July 25-29, and sharing a space with the website Fetusmart under the same publisher, Bobcow Productions. We'll be in the Small Press Pavilion, just before the Bayside Lobby, Space M2. (That's at the end of Aisle 1600.) We'll have books and t-shirts available, are sponsoring a coloring contest, and are also debuting a new D6 tabletop RPG from the same world (but shh, that's a secret... come find us playing in the atrium!) Finally, the arts editor will be wandering around minstreling, so look for a lady in black and white diamonds.

    Hope to see you there!

    Eminent Domain Imminent
[Note to our International Colleagues: This is an issue that concerns voters in the USA first and foremost. However, the handing of such vast domestic powers to conglomerate corporations surely concerns the international community. Energy corporations are the chief motivators of war in most global hot spots today.]
